The Latin Mass Society Walsingham Virtual Pilgrimage takes place from Friday 28th August to Sunday 30th August

An age-old tradition is going digital this August Bank Holiday weekend as pilgrims around the world can walk and pray together from the comfort of their own home.

Every year for the last 10 years, the Latin Mass Society has held an annual walking Pilgrimage from Ely in Cambridgeshire to Walsingham in Norfolk over three days on August Bank Holiday weekend. This year because of the Covid-19 pandemic the Society decided rather than cancelling the event they would update it and go virtual for one year only. Using the wonders of modern technology and a variety of streaming platforms travel with us from Willesden in London to Walsingham virtually.

After the success of the Latin Mass Society's first Digital Conference in July, which included Live Mass from Warrington and a host of talks from people such as Fr Zuhlsdorf, Fr Tim Finigan, Bishop Schneider and a welcome message from Cardinal Nichols - this latest digital event will be bringing pilgrims together from around the world.

There is a daily schedule of streamed Masses from Willesden, Cambridge and Walsingham. There are online meditations from clergy, including Rev Canon John Cahill, Fr Tim Finigan, Dom Bede Rowe, Dom Anselm Redman, Fr James Mawdsley and Fr Michael Rowe in Australia. Online Rosary and prayer sessions will be live streamed on YouTube, Facebook and Zoom including an online interactive Compline on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Pilgrims are invited to join in, not just online, but to get out if they are able and join the walk in their own locations each afternoon. Willesden to Walsingham is 118 miles and so the Society has asked pilgrims to pledge to walk a distance during the Pilgrimage, which can be anything from half a mile to 100 miles. They even have a Latin Mass Society Team on the Strava App which will enable pilgrims to log their daily walks.

With pilgrims signed up to the virtual pilgrimage walking and praying together, the LMS hopes to add up the total of miles walked, along with the number of decades of the rosary said and even the number of songs sung as they pray to Our Lady of Walsingham for the conversion of England.
