Scotland: Day to reflect, pray, learn, and plan for World Day of the Poor

Across Scotland women and men of faith live their witness through service to the poor and the marginalised. As part of Challenge Poverty Week 2019 the Xaverian Missionaries, the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Scotland, and Justice and Peace Scotland are inviting everyone to come together to reflect, pray, learn, and plan. Exploring the work already being done, and the challenge of Pope Francis' for the World Day of the Poor.

Hugh Foy is Director of Programmes and Projects for UK Xaverian Missionaries who are hosting this event at the Xaverian Conforti Institute, Calder Avenue in Coatbridge on Sunday, 13 October, he said:

" This event seeks to gather together members of the Catholic community in Scotland to respond to the Gospel call to active solidarity with those made poor by unjust political and economic structures. With the aid of Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching we will explore how we can collaborate in campaigns both within the Church and with all people of good will to nurture the common good in contemporary Scotland. As always, we are Inspired by our holy father Pope Francis who reminds of the urgency of these issues! "We cannot wait any longer to deal with the structural causes of poverty, in order to heal our society from an illness that can only lead to new crises."

We hope many people will join us at Conforti on Sunday 13 October.
