Ireland: Dr Lorna Gold to lead first climate strike at Dalgan Park, Co Meath
#FridaysforFuture striker, Dr Lorna Gold will lead the first climate strike at Dalgan Park on Friday 31st May 2019 at 3.30pm.
The climate activist, who began the climate strikes outside the Dáil last winter, is in Dalgan to present the 2019 Columban Schools Journalism awards which were themed 'The Challenge of Climate Change'.
Dr Gold will present the prizes to students who are travelling from Cork, Limerick, Galway and Dublin. Afterwards, she will give a talk on climate change.
She will then lead a climate strike at 3.30pm in the grounds of Dalgan Park. The first such strike in Navan, Co Meath.
Inspired by 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg's weekly protests, the global youth climate movement has swept the globe in recent months. Last Friday, thousands of students descended on Dublin to urge the Government to take greater action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. More and more locations in Ireland are joining the weekly protests.
After the climate strike in Dalgan Park, renowned eco theologian, Fr Sean McDonagh will give a short talk on biodiversity and environmental destruction.
