Five nuns from the Medical Missionaries of Mary, in the diocese of Issele-Uku, have been kidnapped, in the State of Delta in south-east Nigeria. They were abducted on 25 October while returning from a burial near Agbor, about 25 miles west of Issele-Uku.
The sisters were in a vehicle which the kidnappers shot at. A priest from the diocese of Issele-Uku told local press: "Pray for the release of the five nuns kidnapped in Agbor, and for the two other nuns who were in the same vehicle."
The abduction of the nuns is only the latest in a series of similar incidents that have long been occurring in Delta State and in other areas of south-eastern Nigeria. A priest of the same diocese of the abducted nuns, has survived two kidnappings.
Fr Andrew Anah, of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Obomkpa, was kidnapped for the first time in 2017, and was released after a few days. He was kidnapped again on 5 June this year and then released in early July.
