Catholic priest Father Marcellinus Obioma Okide - who was abducted on 17th September by gunmen - has been released from his kidnappers.

Enugu Diocese's Communication Director, Father Anthony Aneke, said Fr Okide was released around 8pm last Thursday (21st September).

In a short statement, Fr Wilfred Chidi Agubuchie announced: "We are glad to inform you that our brother and priest, Father Marcellinus Obioma Okide, has been released from the den of the kidnappers…

"The Catholic Diocese of Enugu is grateful to the Almighty God for His protection over Father Okide, and thanks you for your prayers and Masses throughout this difficult period.

"May Our Lady, Help of Christians, intercede for us and our country Nigeria."
