Mariapolis at Ampleforth
Mariapolis - next week from 4-8th April - Ampleforth College, North Yorkshire.
"Now is the time for every people to go beyond its own borders, to look farther"- words of the young Chiara Lubich during the Mariapolis of 1959, set in the Italian Dolomite mountains.
That call for unity between nations echoes as strongly today, but it also proposes a challenge for communities, neighbours and families. How many borders exist around us, and within us - and how can we overcome them?
Open to all people of goodwill, Mariapolis 2018 takes up this theme 'Beyond all Borders'. The Mariapolis began as a summer gathering of the Focolare Movement, allowing participants to rest and reflect together, and it continues to this day in many countries across the world. The Focolare Movement, founded by Chiara Lubich, emerged from the crumbled ruins of war-ravaged Italy. Its focus on living the Gospel gradually changed the towns and cities where ordinary people took up the challenge to go beyond all borders.
The Mariapolis will bring together people of all ages, with a variety of traditions, backgrounds and experiences. Day visitors will be welcome.
