Women wanting peace say thank you to Pope Francis

In a twist to their usual annual project for International Women's Day, celebrating women peacemakers, Pax Christi are encouraging women the world over to write to Pope Francis for International Women's Day, 8 March, to affirm his leadership on peace, nonviolence, nuclear disarmament and an end to the arms trade.

This is a joint project with Pax Christi and the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative. As an international Catholic movement for peace, Pax Christi is all too aware that it is often women who are both the front-line victims of violence and campaigners and primary activists for peace, in the home and in the community. Pax Christi UK have produced a postcard this year which is being used by parishes, religious communities and individuals. There is also an on-line option. Details below.

Pat Gaffney of Pax Christi said: " We feel it is important to acknowedge the role that Pope Francis plays in encouraging a culture of peace and nonviolence - through his own personal witness but also in the way he uses his voice and position to engage internationally in advocacy to challenge the causes of war and violence. His message is for the whole world and is respected and acknowledged way beyond our own Church".

In Rome on 8th March, International Women's Day, women from Pax Christi will be taking part in a programme sponsored by Voices of Faith entitled 'Why women matter'.

The event will be live-streamed here: https://voicesoffaith.org/event/
