Manchester: 140th Anniversary Mass at St Bede's College
The Rt Rev John Arnold, Bishop of Salford joined pupils and staff at St. Bede’s College last Thursday 26 to celebrate Mass for the feast of St Bede.
St Bede is remembered today as the earliest English historian and this Mass was even more significant as the College itself is celebrating the 140th Anniversary of its foundation by Cardinal Vaughan. Six members of the clergy from Salford Diocese who attended the College as pupils, joined Bishop Arnold to concelebrate this very special occasion. They were: Mgr Allen, Mgr Kay, Fr Daly, Fr Dearman, Fr Livesay, Fr Manock and Fr Sumner representing a small number of Bedian clergy who attended the College.
The party were joined by Connor Hey as altar server. Connor left the College in 2013 and will begin his studies at seminary in the Autumn continuing the College’s proud tradition of Bedian Alumni clergy.
Headmaster Dr Richard Robson said: “We are delighted that this long tradition of Bedian Alumni Clergy is set to continue. Connor will be an asset to the priesthood together with Theo Sharrock, another Bedian who will also enter seminary this year.”
The most recent Bedian Alumni cleric to be ordained was Father Michael Deas in 2016. He has already returned to the College to celebrate Mass.
