The Great Haringey Deanery Bank Holiday Walk

Haringay pilgrims at Our Lady of Muswell Church
Fr Joe Ryan, Parish Priest at St John Vianney's church in West Green writes:
More than 70 people from the six parishes in Haringey Deanery, north London, joined in a Church Crawl on this Bank Holiday Monday. At each church we had a time of prayer; were told a brief history of the parish and then enoyed some refreshments.
Mass was celebrated by Fr Mark Anwell at noon at his parish of Muswell Hill. Fr Mark reminded us of the history of the Holy Well, which was a place of pilgrimage for many hundreds of years. Then we enjoyed our picnic lunch, supplemented by a great array of food provided by the ladies of the parish.
We were energised for the next leg of our trip which took us through Highgate Woods. Here we enjoyed a splendid view over London, similar to those we had seen at Alexandra Palace earlier on the way from Wood Green.
We prayed for the success of the witness given by The Catholic Worker community as we passed Mattison Road where shelter is given to those who are homeless.
Visits to the parishes of St John Vianney in West Green and St Ignatius in the High Road, brought a magnificent pilgrimage to a close.
The simple exercise of walking to each parish, meeting with fellow-pilgrims and spending a Bank Holiday together is such an enriching experience.
Many have seen delightful parts of the Deanery not visited before.
A good time was had by all!
