Glasgow: St Mungo's Festival

St Mungo's Festival launches on Wednesday, January 6 with two lectures given by Dr Tony Lewis and Professor Thomas Clancy, in partnership with Glasgow life, held in St Mungo Museum of Religious life and Art.

On Saturday, 9 January at the Mitchell Library, Archbishop of Glasgow Philip Tartaglia and Rev Dr Laurence Whitley will read from a copy of the Vita S Kentigerni, the 12th century book commissioned by Bishop Jocelyn to recount the story of St Mungo.

Sunday 10 January sees Glasgow Churches Together mark St Mungo's Day with the Celebrating St Mungo Service, honouring the city's patron in dance and song. Dr Irene O'Brien, Senior Archivist at The Mitchell, will be the speaker.

On Wednesday 13 January, the Feast of St Mungo, Archbishop Tartaglia will celebrate Mass in St Mungo's Church in Townhead. Earlier in the day there will be a walk following the path of the Molendinar Burn from Cardowan down to the Clyde. There will also be the customary dedication of the city's youth to St Mungo at mid-day in Glasgow Cathedral.

Thursday 14 January sees the 2016 Molendinar Lecture, given this year by Gregory Cameron, Bishop of St Asaph in Wales, under the title of 'Lord, let Glasgow flourish: What makes a city tick?'

Other highlights of the Festival include Mungo's Bairns, when children from seven primary schools will tell the story of the patron saint in song and dance at the City Chambers. There will also be a number of workshops and talks throughout the period of the Festival.
