Madrid: Spanish priest dies of Ebola
Spanish priest Father Miguel Pajares, 75, died of the Ebola virus at Carlos III hospital in Madrid today. Fr Miguel who was with the Hospitaller Brothers of St John of God in Monrovia, was flown from Liberia to Spain on Sunday after he contracted the virus.
He was the first European to be treated with the experimental drug ZMapp. Earlier two American missionaries treated with the drug showed signs of improvement.
Fr Miguel served as a missionary in Liberia for 50 years.
On Saturday a nun working in Liberia, Sister Chantal Pascaline, died of the virus. A colleague, Sister Juliana Bonoha Bohe, 65, has also been evacuated to Madrid. Although she has so far tested negative for Ebola she is being kept in an isolation unit.
