Ninth Archbishop of Liverpool to be named

Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool
The appointment of the ninth Archbishop of Liverpool is due to be announced this morning, 21 March 2014, at 11am at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool. After the official announcement, and a press conference, the Archbishop-Elect will celebrate the 12.15pm Mass in the Crypt Chapel of the Cathedral.
The seat has been vacant since Archbishop Patrick Kelly, (who was installed on 3 July 1996) resigned due to ill heath on 27 February 2013. At this time he became Archbishop Emeritus of Liverpool and the Archdiocese became Sede Vacante (the Vacant See) until the appointment of a new Archbishop.
Bishop Thomas Williams, Auxiliary Bishop of Liverpool, was appointed by the Holy See to serve as Apostolic Administrator during the period Sede Vacante.
We will publish further details once the announcement has been made. (See: ICN 21 March 2914 Rt Rev Malcolm McMahon appointed Archbishop of Liverpool appointed www.indcatholicnews.com/news.php?viewStory=24397)
