Cardinal Robert Sarah

Two months after the devastating earthquake that struck the Japanese people, Cardinal Robert Sarah, president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, from May 13 to 16 will go on behalf of the Pope to the affected areas.

Benedict XVI says he wants the Japanese people to feel his closeness, his prayers and his help. The President of Cor Unum will take and embrace the ideal of Benedict XVI to all family members of the victims, displaced persons and to all the volunteers who are working tirelessly to rebuilding the affected area: Caritas Japan, which immediately mobilized, it is still the reference point for all the aid that the Catholic Church continues to give after the emergency phase to the reconstruction of the life of the Japanese community.

The President of Cor Unum will go to Saitama on May 14 to visit the centres of the Catholic Church for the homeless. Then he will go to Tokyo, where together with the Japanese Bishops will celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving for the beatification of John Paul II.

On May 15, he will be in Sendai, the epicenter of the disaster, where he will preside the Mass at the Cathedral. The next day he will visit the other two shelters for displaced people and meet with the responsible of the largest charitable organizations present. Cardinal Sarah will be accompanied by Under Secretary of Cor Unum, Mgr Segundo Tejado.
