Archbishop of Westminster to be Patron of Thai Children’s Trust

The Archbishop of Westminster, the Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, has agreed to become Patron of the Thai Children's Trust, ­ the charity that helps vulnerable and disadvantaged children across the whole of Thailand.

Archbishop Nichols has extensive experience of education and children's issues, particularly child protection. He has been, among other appointments, Chairman of the Management Board of the Catholic Office for the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults and was instrumental in its founding. Archbishop Nichols has also been President of the Commission for Schools, Universities, and Catechesis in the Council of the Bishops' Conferences of Europe.

“We are deeply honoured to have the support of Archbishop Nichols”, said Andrew Scadding, Chief Executive of the Trust. “We have seen our work develop and expand in the many areas of need across Thailand over the last thirty years but there is so much more to be done. His guidance and interest will allow us to reach more children who need our help.”

The Thai Children's Trust is the largest UK charity focusing solely on Thailand, supporting projects run by the Redemptorists, the Good Shepherd Sisters, the Camillians, and local dioceses in Pattaya, Rayong, Nong Khai in the north, the Tsunami area in the south and Burmese refugees in the west of Thailand.
