The climate of violence generated by Mexico's drug cartels is so volatile, that the Archbishop of Leon has asked criminal organizations to call a truce during the Pope's visit to the city.
Last Sunday, during a press conference, Mgr Jose Guadalupe Martin Rabago asked "on behalf of all Mexico" that the gangs take into account that the country is moving into a "time of peace and grace". He asked them not take advantage of "this joyous occasion to do something that bring "pain and death".
Appealing to their better nature, he said that in their hearts, criminals are human being and urged them to be sensitive and resprect people's lives.
The archbishop also urged authorities to do their best to keep public order so that the Pope's visit to Mexico, which will take place between 23 and 26 March will take place in :peace and tranquility".
