Remain campaigners from an interdenominational group gave out leaflets supporting EU membership, aware of the message Catholic Social on peace and justice. The campaigners in Tachbrook Street Market, Pimlico, London SW1, last Saturday, were from Holy Apostles Catholic Church, Pimlico, and St James' C of E Church, Piccadilly.

Fleur Brennan was interviewed by a London radio station and cited Europe's protection for Human Rights, and workers' rights, including rights to paid holidays and maternity leave. She reminded listeners that the European Community was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012, and cited the latest Pax Christi newsletter's article in Justpeace by Bruce Kent, vice president of Pax Christi. He wrote that in connection with winning the Nobel Peace Prize, the then President said the EU was an unrivalled way of binding our interests so that war becomes impossible. " The purpose in the minds of the founders was to promote and ensure peace in Europe," he said.

Pax Christi quoted Pope Francis's dream of "a Europe that cares for children, that offers help to those newcomers who have lost everything."

The campaigners were also informed by Cardinal Vincent Nichols' words that: "There's a long tradition in Christianity and in Catholicism in particular of believing in holding things together. There's a strong tradition in the Catholic vision of life that to start down the path of division almost inevitably leads to further division."
