Berkshire train crash: statement from Bishop Crispian Hollis

Bishop Crispian Hollis, Bishop of Portsmouth, issued the following statement after the train crash on Saturday, in which six people were killed and five have been seriously injured. I was of course shocked and saddened at the news of the tragedy at Ufton Nervet. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. At times of tragedy such as this, the Church is there to provide help, support and comfort to everyone who is affected. Prayers for the victims will be said at Mass in our parishes and many of our churches will be open all day today for anyone who needs a place of peace and quiet. In my prayers I will also be remembering those who were killed and injured and their families and friends. I am also praying for the emergency services who have been involved with the incident.
