Response to Viewpoint piece on same-sex marriage
What an astonishing article by Carla Ryan criticising the Bishop of Shrewsbury's pastoral letter on gay marriage. www.indcatholicnews.com/news.php?viewStory=23048 How can she compare being left-handed or being a midget with being homosexual! I find it deeply disturbing that ICN should publish such views.
The Catholic Church does accept that there are people with same-sex attraction, and we should welcome them in our communities, but it also teaches that to act on the impulse to same-sex attraction is a grave sin. To suggest that marriage is possible between people of the same sex is a contradiction in terms. To condone such couples being allowed to bring up children will lead to the destruction of the family and society as we know it.
Marriage is a sacrament between a man and a woman. I find it deeply disturbing that ICN should publish such views.
