Thailand: flood waters threaten children's home - no alligators yet!

Staff at a home for children with HIV/Aids in Thailand are anxiously watching as the flood waters are coming perilously close. Faisal Malik from the Camillian Home writes:

"No alligators yet. Camillian Home and the local community of Latkrabang are being drastically affected from the rise in water levels. Our area has been selected as a distribution point for excess water coming from the North so the risk of additional flood water remains for another few weeks. (water levels are 60cm to 100cm in our area and rising)

"Many disabled adults living in the community are having to live on temporary wooden shelves to escape the water. For the moment, only our one pickup truck is able to traverse the flooded main road. Many of our staff who live outside are now living with us as their homes have been completely flooded.

In addition our day care children and their families are also in a very stressful situation as most live in low lying areas and have no means to come to our Home. So far our Home is still dry as we are about 80 cm above current water levels but with limited transport, regular medical visits for the children, food, staff, etc are becoming a challenge.

Not to sound too grim so I must share a bit of a happy story. Our kids are becoming very capable fishermen as they've been catching the little fish that swim into our area of flood water. This can be considered a part of their life skill and occupational training :-)

I'll keep you posted on the situation. Thank you always for your kind support.
