40 days for life comes to London

The American pro-life organisation 40 days for life is branching across the Atlantic and bringing its first campaign to London, from 22 September to 31 October. London will be spiritually united with 238 cities in five countries for a major simultaneous pro-life event. 40 days for life is a focused pro-life campaign encouraging prayer, fasting and peaceful vigil to end abortion. The mission of the campaign is bring together people of faith and conscience in a spirit of unity with the purpose of repentance, seeking God’s favour to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion.

Campaign Director Robert Colquhoun said: “Our campaign team is very excited to bring 40 days to life to London to save lives, inspire hearts and minds and impact eternal souls.”

The office of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has written to the team pledging the prayers of the Pope for this campaign.

40 days for life has had an unprecedented impact to date. More than 350,000 people of faith and conscience worldwide have already joined together to pray and fast for an end to abortion. Over 110,000 have taken to the streets, forming peaceful prayer vigils outside abortion clinics. 2,811 children have been saved from abortion. 35 abortion workers have quit their jobs and five clinics have gone out of business. 92% of 40 days for life participants reported that they grew spiritually and personally through their involvement in the campaign.

The London campaign team announced that working with affiliate organisations, they would like to make the words of the late Cardinal Winning their own: "I issue an open invitation to any women, any family, any couple who may be facing the possibility of an unwanted pregnancy. I strenuously urge any person in that situation, of any ethnic background, of any faith, from anywhere, whatever worries or cares you may have; we will help you.

"If you need pregnancy testing or counseling; we will help you. If you want help to cope with raising the baby on your own; we will help you. If you want to discuss adoption of your unborn child; we will help you. If you need financial assistance, or help with equipment for your baby and feel financial pressures will force you to have an abortion; we will help you. If you cannot face your family, or if pressure in your local area is making you consider abortion, come to us, we will help find you somewhere to have your baby surrounded by support and encouragement.

"And finally, if you have had an abortion, if you are torn apart with guilt, if your relationship has split up because of abortion, if you are suffering from post-abortion stress – come to us, we will help you. Today I urge anyone in that situation; Let us help you to avoid making one of the biggest mistakes of your life."

The campaign team states further: “We strongly encourage everyone to pray and fast fervently during this 40 days for life campaign to heal our broken nation and help bring the beginning of the end of abortion.

"In essence our message to anyone in a ‘crisis’ pregnancy in the country is this: We love you! We are here to listen and support you. We will help you.

"Our message to women who have had abortions is: 'We love you! We are here to listen and support you. If there is anything we can do to help we are here for you.

Our message to those who work in the abortion industry is: We love you! Nothing you can do or say will ever take away our love for you.'

We don’t know what will happen during the 40 days for life campaign in London, but we’re very excited to find out.”
