Kenya: missionary priest dies aged 101
Fr Domenico Pozzi, a Fidei Donum Missionary from Italy, died at a Nairobi hospital on Friday, 30 October, following a long illness. He was 101 years old.
Cardinal John Njue, Bishops Emeritus Colin Davies and Cornelius Schilder have sent their condolences to Fr Pozzi's community and the Catholic Diocese of Ngong.
Fr Francis Mwangi, Vicar General of the Diocese said: ""Fr Domenico and his group have done a lot of good work at Ongata Rongai parish and Lengisem. He loved the people of Kenya."
Fr Domenico was born in July 1908, in Cortemaggiore, in the diocese of Picenza in Italy. He came to Ngong Diocese in 1977. He was part of the team that founded the Fatima Maternity Hospital in Ongata Rongai and the Fatima Health Centre in Lengisem.
His Requiem Mass will be held at the Evangelising Sisters of Mary Convent Church at Ongata Rongai this Saturday, 7 November 7 at 10am.
Ngong Diocese is situated in the southern part of Kenya along the border with Tanzania. It covers three administrative districts (Kajiado, Narok and Transmara) which cover a total area of 39,847.1 sq. km.
