Cardinal's statement on recent media coverage of Michael Hill case
Archbishops House has just issued the following statement today, following media reports and an early morning BBC radio broadcast concerning the Michael Hill case. (For past ICN stories on this case use the search facility). 'Before the appearance of media reports this weekend, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor had no knowledge of any formal enquiry concerning Michael Hill's moves 20 years ago within the diocese of Arundel and Brighton. This enquiry is apparently in response to complaints made by a particular individual. The police have never contacted the Cardinal in this or any other connection. 'The Cardinal is dismayed by the approach of the Today programme, which broadcast a package that was both unbalanced and out of all proportion, to news that the police are engaged in an enquiry.'
