London: service of solidarity with torture survivors of Zimbabwe
A Service of Solidarity with torture victims of Zimbabwe will take place this evening at St Paul's Church in Bedford Street, Covent Garden WC2. Today is UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. The London event is being organised by the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum in association with Amnesty International UK, Redress, International Bar Association, International Rehabilitation Council for Victims of Torture, Zimbabwe Association and the Zimbabwe Vigil. The main speakers will be Chenjerai Hove, John Makumbe and Brita Sydhoff. All welcome to join the service and post-service procession to lay flowers on the steps of the Zimbabwe Embassy in memory of those who have been tortured. The service will mirror similar services in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Between January and March this year the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum documented 254 cases of torture in Zimbabwe.
