An organiser said: "As our government seems bent on pre-emptive war, and as we celebrate the life and prophetic challenge of Dr King, we will be praying for the leaders of our world to seek just and peaceful solutions to conflict."
The service will be followed by a procession and vigil at the White House. Speakers will include: Bishop John Chane, Episcopal Diocese of Washington; Marian Wright Edelman, of the Children's Defense Fund and Jim Wallis, from the Sojourners.
