London: Learn songs from the Camino to Santiago

El Parnaso Hyspano will be holding three spiritual music workshops in London in October, learning songs that pilgrims have sung on their way to Santiago de Compostela and other places of pilgrimage for many years.

After the three sessions, participants will join in a mini-pilgrimage from Farm Street to Spanish Place singing these songs on the way. Pilgrims sang these songs in different times and places, reflecting their experience of pilgrimage. We will use these songs to connect with the experience of pilgrimage in our own lives.

No prior musical experience is needed, the sessions are open to all. Learning sessions will be on Sunday 4th October (4-6pm Farm Street), Wednesday 14th October (7-9pm Spanish Place). The final pilgrimage ceremony will be 11am-1pm on Saturday 17th October. To sing in the final session you should have attended at least one of the learning sessions.

All materials needed will be supplied, and light refreshments will be served at each session, There will be a minimum contribution of £10 per person for participation, payable online in advance. Pre-booking enquiries may be made by email to ephyspano@gmail.com

Commenting on the initiative, project originator and leader Rafael Montero, said: "Early pilgrim songs are a wonderful resource for everyone, and we are delighted that two central London parishes, Farm Street and St James are going to be the hosts of our rediscovery and enactment of some of these songs ending in a symbolic pilgrimage between the two churches. Whoever we are, and at whatever stage we are at on our life journey, I hope we can make this an opportunity for reflection and spiritual refreshment for all who join us.
