Cheshire: Young scientists shine in St Bernard's inaugural science fair

St Bernard's Roman Catholic Primary & Nursery School, Ellesmere Port, recently hosted its inaugural science fair, welcoming pupils, families, staff, governors, and members of the local community to celebrate science and sustainability.

Taking place in the school hall, the event showcased the theme 'Science for a Sustainable Future'. It was led by Year 6 pupils, with support from Year 6 class teacher and science subject leader, Mrs Helen Lally.

Throughout the academic year, pupils have prepared a range of interactive exhibits designed to demonstrate their scientific understanding, with a strong focus on sustainability and real-world application.

The event was split into two sessions, with pupils from all year groups initially visiting the fair, engaging with the stalls and participating in a range of activities. Later in the afternoon, the fair opened as a drop-in session for parents, carers, governors, and members of the wider community.

Across the event, Year 6 pupils presented demonstrations, experiments, and interactive activities designed to bring science learning to life. Visitors were also able to view supporting displays of pupils' written and creative work on sustainability, with pupils available throughout the session to explain their projects and answer questions.

One Year 6 pupil said: "Running the science fair was really exciting. We were able to help the younger children to understand more about science and how we can hopefully make our world a better place for the future."

A Year 5 pupil added: "The Team 6s did a great job in organising the Science Fair. They didn't just talk about science, they brought it to life. Through many stations of fun activities, they taught us many things we didn't know before! It was a joy to witness this collaboration."

The event was kindly sponsored by Essar Energy Transition (EET) Fuels, with its team hosting an interactive stall and sharing insights into its work supporting sustainability within the energy sector.
