St John Lloyd RC Primary School in Cardiff has become the first Catholic primary school in Wales to achieve the Oscar Romero Award at Participation level. The school has been recognised for its work on promoting Catholic Social Teaching into the culture, curriculum, and ethos of the school.
The school marked the beginning of this journey by celebrating Mass on the Feast Day of Saint Oscar Romero earlier this year, placing faith at the heart of its commitment to Catholic Social Teaching.
The school was highly commended by the Oscar Romero Award Trust, who stated: "It is very clear that your school has a huge commitment to living out its faith in action. Engagement with Catholic Social Teaching has had an impact on the behaviour of your pupils. It is good to hear that the life of Oscar Romero has influenced them to stand up for the poor and vulnerable."
Mrs Claire Hart, Headteacher, said: "We are absolutely delighted as a school community to receive this recognition and to be the first primary school in Wales to achieve the Oscar Romero Award at Participation level. This achievement reflects our shared commitment to living out Gospel values each day."
"At St John Lloyd, we are passionate about embedding Catholic Social Teaching across all aspects of school life. We are dedicated to nurturing our children to become the voice of the voiceless, inspired by Saint Oscar Romero, and to stand in solidarity with those who are poor and vulnerable."
"We look forward to continuing our Oscar Romero journey through to the developing stage as we further embed CST principles here at St John Lloyd."
