Film: Palestine 36

Scene from Palestine 36
As the desperate crisis in Israel and the Occupied Territories continues - a new film released in the UK this week, offers some insights into the history of the region. Written and directed by Annemarie Jacir, the drama takes place in 1936 Mandatory Palestine, where a unified Palestinian uprising and increasing Jewish immigration intensify conflict against British rule.
With a stellar cast that includes Hiam Abbass, Jeremy Irons, Yasmine Al Massri and Billy Howle, Palestine 36 received a 20 minute standing ovation when it premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival last month. It has been chosen as the Palestinian entry for the Best International Feature Film at next year's Academy Awards.
Curzon Film are releasing the film in the United Kingdom this Friday, 31 October 2025
There will be a special preview and Q&A on Thursday 30 October, 6pm, at the Mayfair Curzon with Yasmine Al Massri and Billy Howle.
