Catholics in Fundraising welcome Pope Leo's first apostolic letter

Catholics in Fundraising warmly welcomes the promulgation of Pope Leo XIV's new Motu Proprio, "Coniuncta cura," which provides fresh guidance on the financial investment activities of the Holy See. This significant document, issued on 6 October 2025, consolidates and clarifies the roles and responsibilities of Vatican institutions in managing Church assets, emphasising the principle of "co-responsibility in communio" and the need for dynamic, transparent collaboration.

The Motu Proprio repeals earlier regulations, notably the 2022 rescript that centralised asset management within the Institute for the Works of Religion (IOR). The new framework entrusts the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (APSA) with primary responsibility for financial investments, while allowing for prudent use of external intermediaries when appropriate.

This renewed commitment to ethical stewardship and accountability resonates deeply with the mission of Catholics in Fundraising. Integrating faith, transparency, and responsibility in fundraising and financial matters is both key to Pope's Leo's Apostolic letter and the work of Catholics in Fundraising.

John Green, Chair of Catholics in Fundraising, commented: "Pope Leo XIV's Motu Proprio is a timely affirmation that true generosity is not only about giving, but about stewarding resources in a way that reflects Catholic values and delivers lasting impact. Our work with partners to help Catholic donors and investors put these principles into action, ensures that their financial decisions serve both the common good and the Gospel."
