Holy Land: Mass arrests of men and boys in West Bank town

The Israeli army began arresting hundreds of men and boys in the streets of the occupied West Bank town of Tulkarem around midday on Thursday. The raids started after two Israeli soldiers were lightly injured in an explosion at a military checkpoint.
Local news sources report that for more than 10 hours Israeli occupation forces (IOF) carried out mass abductions in the town, detaining almost every Palestinian man they encountered in streets, buildings, buses, pharmacies, and shops.
Recorded on film in images which resemble Nazi round-ups of Jews during World War Two, the men and boys were forced at gunpoint to walk in single lines. Some were later freed. The destination of most of those arrested is not clear.
The IOF also raided homes, destroyed property, and assaulted residents indiscriminately as a form of collective punishment.
The solders have left Tulkarem now but are continuing raids in the nearby refugee camp and other areas.
Israel said the raids are to uproot Palestinian militant groups, but the destruction of refugee camps and towns and the forcible expulsion of residents is systematically emptying the region of its indigenous inhabitants. Israeli officials have publicly announced their intention to fully annexe the West Bank.
At least 1,020 Palestinians have been killed, and 7,000 injured, by Israeli forces and extremist Jewish settlers, since 7 October 2023.
