Booking now: Annual John Bradburne Pilgrimage Walk

The John Bradburne Memorial Society (JBMS) warmly invites supporters, walkers, and spiritual seekers to join the annual John Bradburne Pilgrimage Walk on Saturday 6 September 2025.
This year's event will follow a picturesque route across Melmerby Fell, close to Skirwith - the birthplace of John Bradburne, Servant of God.
The day will begin at 10am with Holy Mass at St John the Evangelist Church in Skirwith, where John was baptised and where his father once served as vicar. At 11am, the pilgrimage walk will commence from Melmerby village, covering an 11km trail that climbs to Dun Edge (709m) before descending via the historic Maiden Way Roman Road to Fellside Farm.
The moderately challenging walk, taking around four to five hours, will include a stop for lunch and prayers along the route. Participants should be prepared for a boggy and windy fell route, equipped with appropriate outdoor gear. Post-walk, pilgrims will be welcomed at Skirwith Village Hall for refreshments, talks, and a special exhibition on John Bradburne's extraordinary life and legacy.
Though the event is free, donations are encouraged in support of the Mutemwa Leprosy Care Centre in Zimbabwe, where John Bradburne served selflessly until his death in 1979.
