CoR Care Forum responds to Assisted Dying Bill developments

Following the recent parliamentary debate and vote on the Assisted Dying Bill on 20 June, the Conference of Religious England and Wales (CoR) has continued to provide space for members and their colleagues to reflect, respond, and discern next steps through its ongoing Care Forum series.
Two recent meetings, an online session on 11 June and the Care Forum on 25 June, focused specifically on the implications of the Assisted Dying Bill. These well attended gatherings reflected the deep concern and commitment among religious and lay participants to engage with this pressing issue at both a practical and spiritual level. They also offered opportunities for members to share resources, questions, and strategies for collective action and witness.
With the Bill now progressing to the House of Lords, CoR has announced that the next Care Forum will be dedicated to a follow-up discussion, taking place online on Wednesday 30 July. This session will continue the shared dialogue and support among members, while providing timely input from experts in ethics, law, and palliative care.
Confirmed speakers include:
Professor David Albert Jones, Director of the Anscombe Bioethics Centre and Professor of Bioethics at St Mary's University
Ben Troke, leading Court of Protection lawyer and Partner at Weightmans LLP, specialising in mental capacity, end-of-life care, and safeguarding
Dr Dominic Whitehouse, Palliative Medicine Consultant at St Wilfrid's Hospice
Dr Nadia Khan, Palliative Medicine Consultant and spokesperson for the British Islamic Medical Association (BIMA)
The CoR Care Forum continues to serve as a vital platform for religious in England and Wales to respond thoughtfully and collaboratively to emerging issues in care, ethics, and public policy-grounded in faith, compassion, and shared responsibility.
