Why Leo? and Augustine's Confessions, at Boarbank Hall

Guest speakers will include Fr Ian Wilson OSA, pictured with Pope Leo.
Do you want to discover where our new Pope is coming from? Two events at Boarbank can help you.
Thinking Faith: Why Leo? 26th July-2nd August.
Do you want a holiday? And a retreat? And stimulating conversation? With only one week to spare? Thinking Faith offers a rich mix of social activity, prayer and discussion, hosted in our comfortable Guest House and beautiful grounds, on the doorstep of the Lake District. This year we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the first Thinking Faith week!
The week will explore the background of Pope Leo XIV and his choice of name. Topics will include St Augustine's Rule, the Augustinian Friars, missionary life in Peru, Pope Leo the Great, Pope Leo XIII and Rerum Novarum, and reflections on the current technological revolution. The course is run by Sr Margaret Atkins, of the Boarbank Augustinian Community and Fr Richard Finn OP. Guest speakers will include Fr Ian Wilson OSA, an Augustinian friar who is the Prior General's Assistant for Northern Europe.
In between, we will take advantage of our location with local walks, including the option of one full day walking (and other activities for those less energetic!).
This week is open to Catholics of working age, who maybe have rather limited holiday time!
The Confessions of St Augustine 18th-22nd August 2025.
Sr Margaret Atkins will lead an introduction to St Augustine's classic spiritual autobiography. Participants will be free to join the Sisters for Mass and sung Prayer of the Church, and there will be opportunity for quiet time, socialising, and exploring the local area.
