Andrea, and the rest of the Campaigns Team at CAFOD write: "With a general election expected in the UK this year, we have a great opportunity to come together and use our Catholic voice to draw attention to the issues that matter to us. Join us at an online meeting with other parishioners from around the country to find out more about how your parish can reach out to local candidates.
We will run this training session on the following dates. You only need to attend one:
Thursday 25th April from 18.30 to 20.30pm
Saturday 4th May from 11 to 1pm
Will you join the training?
Along with our friends at the Society of St Vincent de Paul, we are launching a new initiative called 'A Year of Encounter' which aims to get the Catholic community engaging with their local candidates ahead of the election.
This is not about party politics, but making sure those who want to represent us in the next Parliament hear loud and clear that their constituents want action on poverty, hunger and injustice.
Our new online training session will take you step by step through the process of how your parish can engage with your local candidates in simple ways.
Together, we will draw inspiration from our faith and explore why political participation should matter to us as Catholics.
The Church tells us that "… All citizens ought to be aware of their right and duty to promote the common good by casting their votes…"
Please get involved and help us make the most of this election year! The greater the number of parishes contacting local candidates, the stronger the Catholic voice will be in your area."
With our prayers and best wishes,
Andrea, and the rest of the Campaigns Team
