Source: WCC

The world's largest prayer gathering-the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity has opened with an array of inspiring resources, from liturgical materials to colorful social media cards.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, jointly published by the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity of the Roman Catholic Church and the WCC since 1968, is traditionally celebrated in the Northern hemisphere from 18-25 January. Millions of people unite to observe the special week.

In addition to the online material available in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Arabic, the Week of Prayer is featured on social media cards in the national colors of Burkina Faso.

The theme for 2024 is "You shall love the Lord your God ...and your neighbour as yourself…"

As one of the prayer cards reads: "May we recognize in our brothers and sisters their desire for enteral life."

Members of different churches in Burkina Faso, facilitated by the Chemin Neuf Community, prepared the resources for the week, reflecting on the need to place love at the centre of the quest for peace and reconciliation.

The materials for 2024 are already available in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Arabic.
