European Meeting of Young Adults in Ljubljana

The 46th European Taizé Youth Meeting is taking place these days in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, at the invitation of the bishops' conference, and prepared together with the archdiocese of Ljubljana, churches of various denominations and the civil authorities.

Participants are coming from 48 countries, with Poland, Germany, Italy, France, Ukraine and Hungary the most represented. The programme includes common prayers at midday in ten churches of the city centre and in the evening at Stožice Arena, and a wide range of workshops on various themes relating to faith, solidarity and culture.

Each evening, Brother Matthew, the prior of Taizé, presents some reflections inspired by the 'Letter 2024' entitled 'Journeying Together', which was published to coincide with the meeting. Several church leaders, including Pope Francis, Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Justin Welby, sent greetings, as did the Secretary General of the United Nations and the President of the European Commission.

On December 30, in the presence of the President of Slovenia and other representatives of the country's political and ecclesiastical authorities, Brother Matthew announced that the next European meeting, a stage of the Pilgrimage of Trust, would take place, at the same time next year, in the city of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. And on December 31, during the last evening prayer, he will invite the young people to see which initiatives they can undertake as pilgrims of peace today.
