Kenya: Sports Day in Turkana

The tug of war
It was a day to remember! St Joseph Primary School in Nariokotome Mission, in the remote Turkana county in northwest Kenya had their end of year Sports Day on Friday 14 July. Although the temperature was about 29 degree Celsius the whole school participated, from pre-primary class one to grade eight.
Competitions included Athletics (100 metres by four, and 400metres in four relays, a football match and a great tug of war.
Parish priest, Fr Dennis Odongo from Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Todonyang said: "Teachers played a a key role in ensuring that the day was successful. Special thanks to teacher Monste from Madrid who brought us new uniforms, three footballs and three basketballs."
The school and parish is run by the Missionary Society of St Paul the Apostle (MCSPA), who also run clinics, nutrition, water and agricultural projects in Turkana.
The MCSPA is supported by New Ways, a volunteer-run charity based in London. If you would like to support their work see: www.justgiving.com/campaign/feedchildrenofturkana2023
