Tolkein was a Catenian
The Catholic men's society, the Catenians, have just revealed that the author of Lord of the Rings, JR Tolkein was one of their members.
In the February edition of the association's magazine, Catena, the editor writes that Tolkein was "a Birmingham man, and Professor of English at Oxford." He became founder vice president of the Oxford Circle in 1944 (into which Lord Longford was initiated in 1945).
The editor writes: "Brother Tolkein proposed the toast to Provincial Council (according to Peter Lane's history of the Association) "in a most amusing way which included an actual toast in Anglo-Saxon."
