National Day of Action demands end to war on Yemen

Tomorrow, Saturday 3rd of December, people all across the UK are taking to the streets and to their local arm factories, to demand an end to UK complicity in the war on Yemen and stand in solidarity with the people of Yemen. 15 locations are taking part in this National Day of Action across England, Scotland and Wales.

Protestors are wanting to raise awareness about arms companies in their local area that are fuelling the war on Yemen. Companies such as Leonardo, Raytheon, BAE Systems, Airbus, Thales and Rolls Royce.

The war in Yemen has raged on for almost 8 years and has contributed to one of the world's humanitarian crises. The Saudi-led coalition is committing war crimes, targeting weddings, schools, hospitals and homes. This has been made possible by the UK government selling weapons to Saudi Arabia, amounting to at least £23 billion since the war began.

This January, 2023, Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) is taking the government back to court over unlawful sales of weapons to Saudi Arabia.

Amber Rose-Dewey from Campaign Against Arms Trade: "People all across the UK are coming out this Saturday to show solidarity with people of Yemen who have experienced the effects of an almost eight year war and one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. People are taking to the streets to illuminate what is often unspoken and unknown; that war starts on our doorstep; that arms companies fueling the war on Yemen exist in our communities; and that the UK government is making billions from arms sales despite the devastating human cost in Yemen."

Katie Fallon from Campaign Against Arms Trade: "In January we're taking the government back to court to challenge eight years of arms sales to Saudi Arabia for use in Yemen. These arms exports have been used in war crimes, killed thousands of Yemenis, and been a major block to achieving peace. This legal case is not just to hold the government accountable for their actions, but to represent everyone in the UK who has opposed arms sales to Saudi Arabia. On Saturday we share our solidarity and outrage with the people of Yemen."
