Pope registers to attend World Youth Day 2023

At the conclusion of the Sunday Angelus, Pope Francis registered to attend the next World Youth Day which will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, in August 2023. Accompanied by some Portuguese university students who are studying in Rome, the Pope filled out the online form on a tablet they gave him - becoming the first officially registered pilgrim for World Youth Day.

He encouraged young people around the world to register for the international celebration of faith.

Pope Francis said there had been a been long gap since the last World Youth Day because of Covid, but he said, now at last "we will rediscover the joy of fraternal embrace between peoples and between generations, which we need so much."

Pope Francis recently released a third message for World Youth Day 2023 in Lisbon, urging young people to follow in the footsteps of Our Lady, going in haste to others and dedicating our lives to Jesus.
