Next Saturday 6th August is the anniversary of dropping the first atomic bomb in 1945, killing a quarter of the million people in Hiroshima, devastating the city and leaving a legacy of radiation-induced cancers and disability. Join Pax Christi England and Wales outside Westminster Cathedral from 11am to 1.00pm on 6th August in prayers, readings and distributing literature on how to foster peace and disarmament for the future.
The following Tuesday, 9th August, Pax Christi will mark the nuclear bombing of Nagasaki, causing the deaths of 80,000 people. Their stall will again be outside Westminster Cathedral between 11am and 1.00pm.
Commemorative events will be held too in Birmingham, Coventry, Liverpool and other places.
9th August is also the anniversary of the execution of conscientious objector Blessed Franz Jägerstätter for refusing to fight for the Nazis. This year's service to commemorate Jägerstätter will be in the cathedral crypt at 6.30pm. All are welcome. After the service, there will be an interfaith walk to the London Peace Pagoda in Battersea Park, for the Nagasaki Day memorial.

And look out for the play - 'The Mistake: a play by Michael Mears'. The dropping of the first atomic bomb is referred to on the Peace Memorial in Hiroshima as "the mistake". In this 77th anniversary of Hiroshima, Michael Mears' new play explores personal stories surrounding that catastrophic event. https://cnduk.org/events/the-mistake-a-play-by-michael-mears-3/
