The funeral of Shireen Abu Akleh has taken place today and highlights the violence experienced by all Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian Territories.

The Weeping Madonna on the Wall of the Israeli Separation Barrier in Bethlehem is a place of prayer on Fridays at sunset.

Please light a candle at sunset where you are and hold in prayer/thought the family and friends of Shireen Abu Akleh and all those killed in violent occupations and pray for accountability for this and other violations of international law and for justice and equality for all who live in Palestine and Israel

If you are on social media please post a photo of your candle or email to annfarr@phonecoop.coop. and we will send on to the family.

Our friends in Palestine and all who work for justice in Palestine and Israel are deeply saddened by the recent killing of Shireen Abu Akleh by Israeli Forces.

Shireen's cousin, Elias Abu Akleh, is a friend and a member of the staff at the Arab Education Institute, AEI, a Pax Christi Partner in Bethlehem. We are glad to hear that Elias, and his family, have been able to get from Bethlehem to Jerusalem to be with the rest of the family since she was killed.

We are horrified at the scenes showing mourners and pall bearers being violently beaten by the Yassam, the Israeli Riot Police, as the coffin was being taken from the hospital to the funeral.

We have sent our condolences to them and all our friends in Palestine as they mourn the death of Shireen.
