Virtual Pilgrimage to Lourdes

Source: Diocese of Clifton

The Catholic Association and the diocesan pilgrimages of Clifton, East Anglia, Northampton, Southwark and Stonyhurst College, and the Glanfield Children's Group will be streaming their Virtual Pilgrimage to Lourdes from 20 - 27 August 2021.

Every year during the last week of August, parishioners from all over Clifton diocese embark on the diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes, France. The group is led by Bishop Declan and our pilgrims come from all over the diocese, they are differing ages and physical abilities. Some are regular pilgrims who travel with us every year, whilst some are coming for the first time, others come along especially to help those who are less able on the journey, a few spend time being official volunteer helpers at the sanctuary but all come because they are called by Our Lady in order to get close to her Son.

This year due to the restrictions in place caused by the pandemic, for a second year, we are inviting you to join us as virtual pilgrims.

Throughout the week 20th - 27th August 2021, in order to bring the spirit of Lourdes to you at home, there will be a programme of Masses, memories, music and more with voices from across the Diocese and fantastic content from the Stonyhurst Pilgrimage Trust. Catholic Association and the other dioceses that usually join us.

Amongst other events, we shall be joining the Lourdes Chaplains in the Grotto, as they pray the Rosary in English on Tuesday 24th August 2021 at 2pm.

There will be a special candle lit for the Clifton Diocese and the pilgrims at this time. If anyone would like their intentions to be prayed for during this Rosary, please send your petitions and I will pass them to the Grotto for inclusion on the altar.
Please send any prayer requests to paul.thompson@cliftondiocese.com

Fr Nick King SJ starts off the pilgrimage with a welcome to Clifton Diocese. He explores the theme of this year's pilgrimage and asks us to follow the pilgrimage on this website throughout the week.

On Sunday 22nd Bishop Declan will be celebrating Mass from Clifton Cathedral as part of the Lourdes pilgrimage. This Mass will be live streamed on our website at 9.30am

Wednesday evening Night Prayers will be led by Fr Michael Thomas. Stations of the Cross with Fr Eugene Campbell.
