Sir James MacMillan CBE to give Craigmyle Lecture 2020

The Catholic Union Charitable Trust have announced that the Craigmyle Lecture 2020 will be given by Sir James MacMillan CBE on Tuesday 24 November at 7pm on the subject of 'Music, Faith and Politics'.

Sir James MacMillan is the pre-eminent Scottish composer of his generation and the composer of numerous acclaimed choral and orchestral works, many of which draw on his Catholic faith and political influences. His high profile works include the percussion concerto Veni, Veni, Emmanuel (1992) and his recent Fifth Symphony 'Le Grand Inconnu' (a French term for the Holy Spirit), premiered in 2019. He also wrote a Mass setting and a setting of Tu Es Petrus for the 2010 visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the UK.

The Craigmyle Lecture is named after Lord Craigmyle (1923-98), a former President of the Catholic Union and will take place online on Zoom this year. Attendance is free but limited to 100 people. The Lecture will be recorded and will be available afterwards on the Catholic Union YouTube channel and our website. Please click HERE to register and to be sent the Zoom link.
