JRS call for new hosts for our refugee friends
Source: JRS
Could you be a volunteer with Jesuit Refugee Services and host a refugee in your home?
JRS runs a hosting scheme, At Home, which facilitates short-term hosting placements for our refugee friends at risk of homelessness.
JRS has arranged more than 100 placements with our wonderful hosts; the hosting scheme has been a lifeline to many of our refugee friends, and hosts also regularly feedback on what a rewarding and transformative experience they find it.
Even amongst the difficulties of the pandemic, one of the hosts noted how it felt like 'an unexpected blessing during a strenuous time in our world'.
The hosting scheme has been closed to new hosts during the pandemic, but as lockdown eases we are planning to re-open to new hosts and guests- with safety as our priority and appropriate measures in place.
Throughout the pandemic JRS staff and volunteers have been in daily phone contact with many refugee friends, and are very concerned that some could soon be facing street homelessness.
They are very much in need of new hosts now, to provide a welcoming environment for a three-month period. The scheme coordinator will provide full induction and support throughout the process.
Could you consider becoming a host with JRS? If you would like to have an initial discussion, please email Naomi, our Hosting Coordinator, at: uk@jrs.net.
