Cardiff: Environment prayer vigil outside Sennedd

A multi-faith prayer and meditation vigil began outside the Senedd, National Assembly for Wales in Cardiff on Friday afternoon. Organised by Christian Climate Action Cymru, people of all faiths will meet every Friday throughout Lent between 2 and 6pm .

Rev D H Jenkins writes:We will be holding the people and the planet in our hearts and praying for humanity to have the wisdom and strength to survive the climate emergency. In concert with others praying outside Westminster, we are praying for the transformation of our politics to create a post-carbon world of justice and peace.

People of all faiths and none are welcome to come along on one or more Fridays. There will be periods of silence, and times for talking/ singing/ ritual. If you would like to offer a prayer, a guided meditation, a song, a choir, a brief talk, a ritual or anything else appropriate, please let us know. Or feel free simply to join us."

This is a peaceful, non-violent, and prayerful event, organised by Christian Climate Action Cymru, but open to all faiths and spiritual perspectives."

Sheila Collins from St Joseph and St Mary's Catholic parish in Penarth, Wales writes: "As well as prayer and meditation Christian Climate Action Cymru are asking all people of faith to to take seriously the climate emergency and to find a place in their lives to reduce their use of fossil fuels during this season of Lent and then to continue into the season of Ramadan. This is a Fossil Fuel Fast. In our culture it is difficult to cut out the use of fossil fuels entirely. I am conscious that every time I use public transport I am using fossil fuels. So I am trying to live locally and waĺking and cycling more. Not everyone can do this. CCA are just asking that we all find a way of doing something and in doing it it will make us more aware of how our actions and lifestyles are destroying life on earth."

Participants are meeting between 2pm and 6pm every Friday until 10 April 2020.
