Quizzers from Christ the King parish in Wimbledon Park held a charity quiz and bake sale for the local community to fundraise for CAFOD's Syria crisis appeal.

The quiz night, which included live music, food, and a raffle, was a great success and was followed the next day with a bake-tastic cake sale, which included a vast array of homemade cakes and treats.

The quiz night and the cake sale raised a fantastic £2,500. CAFOD volunteer Clare Collins said: "There was incredible support for our fundraiser event which included live music, dinner, raffle and quiz and had a great turnout. All food, drink and prizes were donated, along with cakes for a crowded cake sale the following morning, which the parish children particularly enjoyed!

To thank the parish for their fundraising, the group of volunteers who organised the events were invited to CAFOD's head office in London's Waterloo, for a tour of the building and to meet some of the staff who work on the Syria programme, and to formally handover the cheque.

Collins continued: "It was inspiring to visit CAFOD's headquarters and hear how our efforts will help refugees receive health, education and housing support."

Sarah Burrows, CAFOD's Emergency Programme Officer for the Syria Crisis, met the group to give them an update on the Syria crisis and to thank them for their contribution. She said: "It was so great to meet with the parishioners of Christ the King to share the work CAFOD is doing in Syria, alongside local church groups and other partners."

"Their dedication to helping those in need around the world is really inspiring and has helped make a massive difference to those communities who are facing conflict, violence and displacement to begin to build a better future."

CAFOD has been working with local partners in Syria since early 2012, ensuring that people affected by the crisis have food, relief, supplies and safe places to stay. The charity also works with Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries.
