On 29 September, the community of Coventry came together to hold a Creation Celebration - a special event where people celebrate the environment - after receiving a prestigious award for sustainable living.

The local parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Coventry was transformed for their Creation Celebration after the parish was presented with the LiveSimply award.

Organised by volunteers of the charity CAFOD, the parish came together to celebrate receiving the award, which was presented to the parish for their commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle, while also thinking of ways to care for communities, both close to home and around the world.

Beginning with a Mass, which included special readings around the theme of the environment, the congregation then gathered a foodbank collection and came together to sign a petition addressed to UK government asking for faster and more effective climate action.

CAFOD's local representative, Sylvester Mutsigwa, said: "This is such a great achievement for the parish - and I would especially like to say thank you to Parish Volunteers Si Chun Lam as well as Catherine and Philip Smith who were instrumental in the Parish being awarded the LiveSimply award.

"Your efforts over the past year have made a massive difference not only locally, but around the world - and you are definitely an inspiration to others."

The Creation Celebration continued after Mass when parishioners took part in a parish walk where there was a discussion about the importance of nature to local life - including the impact of the sea and coastal areas.

This was one of many Creation Celebration events, inspired by CAFOD's 'Our Common Home' campaign and organised by CAFOD volunteers around the country. It is hoped the events will highlight the growing concern for the environment and start new conversations about climate change.
