The 2019 World Week for Peace in Palestine and Israel, takes place from 15-22 September. The theme this year is: 'Humanity and Equality in God's Creation.'
The past 12 months has seen a massive acceleration of illegal demolitions and occupations by Israeli settlers on Palestinian land. The numbers of arrests and killings by Israel has increased. As on July 2019 Israel is holding 5,150 Palestinians as political prisoners, including 460 in administrative detention, 210 children and 38 women and girls. (figures from War on Want)
"The situation in Palestine and Israel is unchanged and people continue to suffer. It affects the future of everyone in the region, denies the equal human dignity of all people, and in all aspects of God's creation. Though we are all created equally in God's image, the military occupation and its discriminatory practices are obstacles to the fullness of life for all in God's creation,", Rev Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, General Secretary of the World Council of churches (WCC) said.
