St George's College singers visit Arundel Cathedral

The links between art, music and faith are at the heart of the Music department's development at St George's College, Weybridge. First Year singers from the College and Chamber Choirs have been particularly active this term. After a successful day of hymn-singing workshops with primary school children which took place in St George's in the East, Whitechapel in May, the young musicians from Weybridge were delighted to represent the College at the annual secondary schools' pilgrimage to Arundel Cathedral on Wednesday 26th June.

Accompanied by Richard Quesnel, Director of Music, and Carlos Sibbick, Chaplaincy assistant, they were impressed by the beauty of the cathedral in the summer sun, and took part enthusiastically in the congregational singing during Mass, led so beautifully by students from The Towers School.

Our students were all intrigued and inspired by the fabulous organ and were keen to return one day to sing in the cathedral. It was a privilege to meet Bishop Richard Moth, who was kind enough to take the time to speak to the young singers. St George's College will celebrate its 150th anniversary next academic year and all students will be encouraged to participate in the first performance of a new piece, again linking art, literature, music and faith as it retells the story of St George and the dragon. Hopefully, we will have the chance to sing some extracts on a return trip to Arundel in the future.
